Gledhill Cup 2010/11

Earlier this evening at a very blustery Bloomfield Road, home of Premier Division side Blackpool FC, the 44th Gledhill Cup Final took place between Division 1 title winners Fleetwood Gym FC and Quilligans FC.  Here's an early brief report on proceedings.  Hopefully, we'll have some live TV highlights in the very near future.

We look forward to the evening of Monday May 16th and the playing of the 44th Gledhill Cup Final at Blackpool FC's Premier League Ground, Bloomfield Road (KO 7pm).  This season's final sees Division 1 title winners Fleetwood Gym FC take on BFSFA Champions Quilligans FC.  Here's a look back at this season's competition.

Just back from the ground of AFC Blackpool where last season's finalists Quilligans FC and Poulton SFC met in the first of this season's semi-finals.  As expected it was a closely fought game between two evenly matched sides but in the end it was Quilligans FC who reached the Bloomfield Road final thanks to a narrow 1-0 win.  Marc Beattie scored what proved to be the winner on 17 minutes following a one on one with Poulton keeper Andy Speight.  Poulton missed an identical chance moments earlier and over the 90 minutes Poulton created far more chances but all too often they were either mis-hit, well defended or well saved by Mark Smith in the Quills goal.  In the last ten minutes Quills shut up shop as Poulton ran out of ideas.  Congratulatons to Mark Spedding and his Quilligans side as they reached their seventh Gledhill final on the bounce.  Next week, same time, same place it will be Fleetwood Gym FC v Wrea Green FC looking to gain that remaining place in the Bloomfield Road showpiece.

This season's Gledhill Cup semi-finals will both be played midweek under floodlights at the ground of AFC Blackpool.  First up, in a repeat of last season's final will be Quilligans FC v Poulton SFC on Wednesday 16th.  The following Wednesday it will be Fleetwood Gym FC v Wrea Green FC.  Kick off times - 7pm.

After this morning's fourth round matches here is the all important draw for the quarter finals of this season's Gledhill Cup.

Following this morning's third round matches here is the all important draw for the fourth round of this season's Gledhill Cup (The last sixteen).

The BFSFA committee have asked us to remind clubs participating in this weekend's Gledhill Cup (3rd Round) that competing players must have been signed on before September 19th.

Following this morning's second round matches here is the revised draw for the third round of this season's Gledhill Cup.

Seventy-one sides initially went into the hat for this season's Gledhill Cup draw.  After the appliance of science that meant an opening round of seven matches and fifty-seven byes.  Sixty four sides will compete in round 2 in early September.  Here's the full draw.
