LFA Sunday Trophy 2007/08

Bad news from Giant Axe, the ground of Lancaster City FC where Poulton SFC were defeated in their Lancashire Sunday Trophy semi final against Preston side AFC Lostock Hall.  Although Poulton had two great chances Lostock deservedly went in 1-0 up at the break due to a double defensive lapse.  Poulton soon equalised in the second half through a speculative Gareth Fegan cross that went over the keeper.  Lostock took the lead once again following a well worked goal before hard working Carl Eastwood headed home a Gary Pett cross on 65 minutes.  Poulton were dominant for the final 25 minutes but couldn't score.  During the first period of extra time Poulton had three or four great chances to win but shots flew just wide.  With five minutes left a coss from the right was misjudged by Poulton keeper Hesketh leaving the unmarked Lostock player the simple task of tapping home.  Game over - unlucky, but a good effort from Poulton.  AFC Lostock Hall will now play Rochdale team Success to the Plough FC at the County Ground Leyland on Monday April 7th. Good luck to both teams in the final and not a bad effort this season from the BFSFA.
On Wednesday evening, (12th), Poulton SFC take on Preston side Lostock Hall FC for a place in this season's Lancashire Sunday Trophy final.  The game takes place at the ground of Kirkham & Wesham FC.  Click here for directions.  The winners will play Rochdale side Success to the Plough FC in the final at Leyland in early April.  It should be a great game to watch so don't miss it.  Kick off is at 19:30 and there will be a minimal admission charge.
The committee have asked to us to remind all of our clubs who are playing at home in the Lancashire Sunday Trophy this weekend that it is their responsibility to provide/put up both nets and pay the referee.  If you've not got two nets make arrangements now to borrow one or inform the opposition.  Teams are also reminded that the league do not require team sheets for LFA games.  Finally, your results must be phoned into the league AND the LFA as per details previously given.  You have been warned !
In anticipation of next Sunday's Lancashire Sunday Trophy clashes I've done a little research, where possible, on our opponents.  I know, I know, I really should get out more.  There are some tough teams to beat if many of our sides are to reach Round 3.
