Sportspy Reports 2010/11

Last Sunday, Quilligans FC narrowly beat the Devonshire Arms FC in the Premier/Division 1 Cup final.  Our friends from Blackpool TV were again there with the cameras.  Click  here to see the action.

Tonight saw the annual Carberry Cup match between the represenatitive teams of the BFSFA and Preston Sunday Football League.  The game took place at Blackpool Wren Rovers FC.  No pictures I'm afraid as the camera has malfunctioned and gone in for repair.  The final score was 1-0 to Preston who scored on 67 through Lydon Hodgkiss. Overall, the BFSFA side dominated possession in the opposition half with some good football.  We created countless good chances but despite having four or five of our top strikers on show we just couldn't finish through a combination of bad luck, poor finishing, wrong choices, good defending and an excellent display of keeping by MOM James Brindle.  Credit to the Preston side who all put in 100% effort and congratulations to them on winning the Carberry Cup.  Team photo now added courtesy of Martin Tierney.

Here is the last of our weekly BFSFA results round ups described by Frank Kennedy and courtesy of the BFSFA.

It's frankly unbelievable that Fleetwood Town FC have reached the play offs during their first season in the Blue Square Premier Division.  Whatever happens the club has done magnificently but they're now on the brink of football league status.  The first major hurdle is to get past AFC Wimbledon.  The first leg of the play offs takes place at Highbury Avenue this evening (Friday-19:45) before the away leg next Tuesday.  With the capacity of their ever improving ground now up to 5,000 the club have assured Fyldesport that anyone wishing to pay on the gate will gain admission.  In addition, AFC Fylde look to continue their climb up the footballing pyramid away at Chorley tonight where a win and a second successive promotion will take the Coasters into the Evostick Premier Division (KO 19:45).  Best of luck to to both clubs.  Get out and watch some local footie!

Anyone interested in accessing our website statistics via the left hand menu may have seen that we're rapidly approaching 14 million page views.  In recent months, site traffic has increased dramatically and peaked yesterday with an all time high of almost 40,000 hits.  Unfortunately, on an uneventful end of season day like yesterday, 5,500 would have been the expected norm.  Sadly, the increase in hits is not down to our creative genius.  Instead, the site has been infiltrated by hackers who have embedded malicious scripts (I've no idea what I'm talking about) that have resulted in tens of thousands of spam E-Mails being sent from bfsfa.com/fyldesport.  Unsurprisingly, people without erectile disfunction are vociferously complaining to our website hosts who in turn, are threatening to take us down unless it can be fixed. Help!

May 1st and courtesy of the committee, here are the provisional results from today's programme of League and Cup action.  The fixtures for the final week of the season are now on-line. If in doubt please contact Dennis Peters on 391055.  Tables, fixtures and results now updated.
