Sportspy Reports 2009/10

An early morning snowfall across the Fylde placed this morning's fixture programme in doubt.  The pitches were fine underneath but early on the line markings were covered by the white stuff.  However, a decent thaw and a degree of commitment from the players and officials of many clubs resulted in a number of games going ahead.  At Commonedge Road Premier Division side Fylde Coast Gates FC were taking on Division 1 title favourites FC Eden in the last eight of the Gledhill Cup.  A semi-final place would be the reward for the victors.

Here are the provisional fixtures for Sunday February 28th.  Fingers crossed, it will be the last Sunday of the harsh winter. Don't forget to confirm your fixtures with both the opposition and the allocated official.  If in doubt, contact Carole Cox.  Updated 22/02/10

As of 08:15 it looks as though only a heavy rain shower or a commitment to clear the pitch markings can save the morning's fixture programme.  The pitches are soft enough to play but at Commonedge you can't see the lines.  As soon as we get any official news from the BFSFA committee we'll let you know.  More pictures attached;  Carole Cox isn't too happy.

Here are the classified results from the Valentine's Day programe of League and Cup action.  The tables have already been fully updated.  Trades & Social FC have officially folded and resigned due to a lack of interest and an unwillingness to pay fines.  The Division 3A table has been amended.
I was hoping to be in Lytham this morning watching the Division 2A league fixture between MA2 FC and the Squirrel FC at Ballam Road.  However, a far too hasty postponement because of the 'alleged' frost meant a late change of venue to Commonedge Road.  Here are a few pictures from many of the games that were played.
Today saw the return fixture between Preston North End FC and the Seasiders.  The first game earlier in the season had finished 1-1 at Bloomfield Road.  It was another close game although Blackpool FC were the better side as they bossed possesion.  They went there to win it but it ended even once again with a goalless draw.  Here are a few images from the game taken from up on high in row 37 of the away end.

At Stanley Park, Blackpool watching the Division 3A game between Berry's Beds FC and J&S Body Repairs FC.  Both sides found themselves in the wrong half of the table at start of play.  Although meeting for the first time in the league this season both sides had already crossed swords in the Gledhill and Divisional Cups.  One of the players was making his 1,014th appearance in Fylde Coast Sunday football.
